Hand embroidered sampler

Hand embroidered Sampler download with vintage Anchor box of threads

I have been working on a design for a sampler where my students can use their newly learned skills ... they have done so well and only two more classes to go. The download is now available from the website ... just go to this link and you will find it! Dimensions of the sampler 2014 is A4 which is approximately 29 x 21 cm
http://www.nancynicholson.co.uk/sampler14.html

Above, it is half finished and below completed. You could stitch only the centre or experiment with hand embroidery stitches as a border ... the lines are there to guide you but you can use whatever you like. I have used hot sixties colours mainly because I am using my mothers old boxes of Anchor thread and those are the predominant shades of the time! But they are so lovely ... the boxes are a bit bished up but that is, of course, part of their delight.

And please don't be shy, I LOVE to hear from you and see your work, even if they are not my embroidery kits! But if you do finish a project like this one please send me a photo and tell me all about it nancy@nancynicholson.co.uk

Now I am also sending out a request. I recently had to let Sarah go as she has gone to live with her boyfriend by the sea, and starting a big adventure there. You can see her great shop here ... https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Bitsoffluffandfur
so now I am casting around for a different kind of help ... I am looking for ladies who are unstoppabley stitchy, who consume embroidery projects insatiably, hungry for fresh challenges, thirsty for thread. I need you to help me work some samples of my new designs, to test drive them if you like ... you can live anywhere as I can send them to you with everything you need. In exchange you will receive a kit of your choice and a huge named THANK YOU on the blog, Facebook, etc.

Going back to the sampler, I am experimenting with an alternative to printing out the designs on a home printer see my blogpost on how to do that here . I have sent off for some to try ... but please contact me if you have found it easy/difficult/or just not tried to print any designs from the printer ... maybe you tried another method? I am keen to establish many more downloads for my customers so any information you can give me would be greatly received!

  6. Hi Nancy
I'd love to rod test your kits- I'm an all round fabric and stitch addict, always happiest with a bit of stuff to be sewing. I can do most of the usual embroidery stitches and am beginning to experiment with more advanced techniques. Like you I have a huge tin of inherited floss which keeps me going :)

  7. Hi Nancy
My friend sent me your link as something that I might like to help with. Her daughter has a couple of your kits and I have helped her with some stitching techniques so YES I would love to help if you need any more helpers. I do live in New Zealand though! I love to stitch (though don't get to do it as nearly often as I dream of) and have held a group teaching some of the young lasses to stitch from our homeschool group over the past two years. I would call myself a high level intermediate embroider. If you are interested you can contact me on mmmontgomery@paradise.net.nz.
    Blessings,
    Maria

    2. Hi Nancy

I don't know if I'm to late but I'd love to test drive your new kit. I bought a download from your Etsy shop a couple of weeks ago and used the method you suggested to transfer the pattern - it worked a treat. Other methods I've used before are transfer pens or printing designs using a fabric printing service such as Spoonflower but I guess you already use this for some of your kits? Thanks Nancy - I really enjoyed stitching your pattern and would love to have another go if you need me! All the best, Nicole

  8. I love all the linens. The tablecloths, blankets and pillowcases are things I use every day. I remember that purple tablecloth. It was always one of my favorites.'

  10. I never knew that it depended on the number of stitches one got. I just assumed that it was so much per image that was placed on the garment. Guess you learn something new each day.

  12. I so wanted to follow this link. I began embroidery at the age of 4 and have always taught it to both boys and girls in my primary school classes but would love to see what you say about it - there are always new ideas to learn.Sadly the link just comes back as 'no such page exists', perhaps because we live in the UK?
    I really enjoy your posts.

  13. Hi Nikki
So glad you have passed on the knowledge to BOYS too! Children love the tactile joys of thread and stitch and I continue to take textile workshops in school ... the next one in October with over 200 smalls from 4 - 9!
Now which link do you mean exactly? Contact me if you need to nancy@nancynicholson.co.uk and I will try to sort out the problem. I am in Kent so it can't be a country problem! xx
